On Sunday, June 5th, 2011 i took a ride from Madison, WI to New Glarus, WI and back along the Bager and Sugar River State Trails. The weather was perfect for biking. Virtually no wind, 85 and sunny. This route is about 60 miles round trip.

This route follows the Badger Trail from Madison to where it intersects with the Sugar River trail south of Monticello, you then go Northwest along the Sugar River Trail until you reach New Glarus. The full route is 60 miles round trip. If your short on time you can cut over to the Sugar River Trail at either Exeter Crossing Road to shave off 8 miles or in Monticello to save a few miles.

In New Glarus i stopped at Puempel’s Olde Tavern and as the saying goes “When in Rome” i was sure to have a Spotted Cow from the New Glarus Brewery. Puempels offers a short menu consisting of fresh sandwiches that was perfect for the hot day.

The Badger and Sugar River Trail are both at peak conditions for the season and have no issues worth noting. All restrooms and water stops in Monticello and New Glarus are open.
